Hello!

I'm back in London after an incredible trip to Japan. I had planned to go there earlier but due to the earthquake and radiation alert at Fukushima I had to delay the trip for a month. Japan is recovering so well after such tragic circumstances but the tourism was down by about 80% while I was there, great for me but bad for Japan. I would highly recommend going there if you haven't been already, it is one of the most beautiful countries I've visited, the people are amazing, and I assure you it is safe, safer than London that's for sure! I can't wait to go back there again someday and explore other areas. Below are some photos from the trip including me standing in 'Memory Lane' in the Shinjuku district,Tokyo. This is one of the alleyways that influenced Ridley Scotts Blade Runner. I'll be uploading all of my photos to a flickr account once I have sifted through the best ones and post a link here when they're done.

Also, I'm currently illustrating a poster for the relief efforts in Japan, they will be sold on this website soon so keep an eye out. Cheers!

I'm currently featured on the welcome page of Computer Arts magazine.

I was recently asked to provide an illustration (below) for an essay with The Idler magazine about consumerism. Full deets on project will be published soon. Also I have been involved with an exciting project with Neo Magazine in Sweden. I was asked to illustrate the front cover of an forthcoming issue about Sex Crime. The final illustration was done in a very different style to what I normally do and I'm really looking forward to seeing the final results. Finally, Iv'e just illustrated the welcome page for Computer arts magazine (may 2011 issue) so watch out for that!

Last year I bumped into Scroobius Pip in my local watering hole and I happened to have the first test print of my mailer in my bag. Being a fan of his work I approached him, introduced myself and handed the mailer over. 9 months down the line, I received an email from him requesting some ideas for album artwork for his next LP, Hoorah! so I made these psychedelic beards for him! He wasn't having any of it, oh well, plod on.

Currently working on a couple of book covers for Orion right now and I've been sifting through old abandoned work, idea's, sketches, unfinished pieces etc for inspiration. I found this sketchbook drawing that came about from working on a pitch a while ago. Wink wink

Here is the original illustration for Popshot magazine that I made last year, black and white or colour? hmm always so hard to choose

04/02/2011

I joined forces with Popular to create illustrations for a DJ Fresh album and single over a year ago, I have only just received the whole package. At the top left you can see a collection of my initial ideas on a grid, which were then nicely incorporated into the finished product.

Unfortunately these book covers I recently created were rejected. I make quite a few book jackets that don't usually make it on here, I quite liked these ones so thought I'd put them up.

Greetings!

It's been a while since Iv'e updated my news thread, I have been busy the last few months, working on various things, pitches here, storyboarding there, quite a few bookcovers and this new piece for ESPN mag of snowboarder, Danny Davis.

In March I'll be going to Japan, and I am genuinely thrilled! I've wanted to go there for so long now. I'll be there during their incredible cherry blossom season, I'm sure I will take much inspiration and hopefully come back full of new ideas for work.

Here is a new Illustration I have made for Popshot magazine which is a fantastic magazine combining Illustration and poetry. (See poem below image)

http://www.popshotpopshot.com/

The Aftershock

A modern man, like cellophane
Like belly fluff, like daisy chain
Superfluous and trouble free
Like plumbers with a PHD
Too much to give, too late to take
A sedative, a well-earned break
Responsible for all the ills
Of rape and plunder, porn and pills
Like rubber bullets, ricochet
Bouncing mullets, Groundhog day
For modern life, reflects the past
Informs the future, man surpassed
By all that he had hoped to conquer
Yearned to free, sought to saver
A modern man, like lemon juice
Like sour grapes, a man obtuse
Devoured by his bitter haste
The aftershock; the aftertaste

Hello!

It seems it is editorial season for me at the moment, maybe for good, who knows? I have just completed a new cover for Builders Magazine (detail, above right) I did not expect a builders mag to have such creative people behind the scenes but they get some great illustrations on their covers....

Other news, I have been asked by Esquire US to Illustrate a portrait for their feb release so very much looking forward to working with them on that! And will be Illustrating A couple of album covers this week, one will be a collaboration with graphic design team Sawdust....

I have also put a detail up of the Snoop Dog portrait (above left) for Dazed and Confused (out next month) I chose to draw on some nice green paper but the published version may well be black and white, we'll wait and see....

Thanks, have a good day all!
